3 July 2018 - Deborah Wilkes

The World Self-Medication Industry (WSMI) has recruited Judy Stenmark as its new director general.

Stenmark spent five years as head of the International Osteoporosis Foundation in Geneva, Switzerland, as well as nine years leading Osteoporosis Australia.

The WSMI said Stenmark had established a strong network with global healthcare institutions – including the World Health Organization (WHO) and United Nations – as well as with international scientific academia, pharmaceutical companies and consumer healthcare businesses.

Brian McNamara, the WSMI's chairman, commented that Stenmark's "long-standing experience at the helm of a highly-regarded global association and her demonstrated leadership will bring valuable perspective".

McNamara added: "Her vision will be instrumental to WSMI's mission of promoting better health through self-care and responsible self-medication."

Stenmark will take up the post of director general of the global industry association on 1 September 2018. She will replace Bill Murphy who has been ad-interim director general since the recent departure of Gerald Dziekan.
