1 July 2019 - Deborah Wilkes
Well Pharmacy will have a new chief executive officer from 30 September 2019.
John Nuttall is retiring after 17 years in charge of the UK pharmacy chain.
He will be replaced by Seb Hobbs who joins Well Pharmacy on 22 July 2019 as designate chief executive officer. Hobbs will work alongside Nuttall until his departure on 30 September 2019.
Up until recently, Hobbs was president and chief customer officer for Signet Jewelers, the world's largest diamond retailer. Hobbs joined Signet in 2011, was promoted to managing director of its UK business in 2013, and took up his most recent post at the start of 2017.
Before joining Signet, Hobbs worked for the UK retailers Blacks Leisure and WHSmith, as well as KPMG.
Nuttall is retiring to "spend more time at home with his family and transition into future non-executive director roles".
Reasons for retiring
Well Pharmacy, which is owned by Bestway Group, said Nuttall had played a pivotal role in transforming the business that was acquired from The Co-operative Group in 2014.
Nuttall was responsible for rebranding the business as Well Pharmacy, creating the Bestway MedHub division, and launching central fill and digital pharmacy models. Well Pharmacy said the digital pharmacy service, which was launched in July 2018, had signed up more than 60,000 customers.
Bestway says Well Pharmacy is the third-largest pharmacy chain in the UK, with more than 760 pharmacies and 7,000 employees.
