US-based specialty retailer Vitamin Shoppe has appointed Godiva's Sharon Leite as chief executive officer with effect from 27 August 2018.
Leite has been president of Godiva Chocolatier in North America since October 2017. She has also worked for Bath and Body Works, Gap, Pier 1 Imports, Sally Beauty and The Walt Disney Company.
She replaces Colin Watts who left the company in May 2018.
Also in May 2018, Vitamin Shoppe announced that Brenda Galgano, executive vice president and chief financial officer, was resigning with effect from 5 June 2018. Galgano has been replaced by Bill Wafford, who was previously senior vice president business development and strategy.
Sales dropped in 2017
Vitamin Shoppe reported sales down by 8.6% to USD1.18 billion in 2017. The company recorded a net loss of USD252 million, compared with net income of USD24 million in 2016.
The retailer operates more than 775 company-operated retail stores under The Vitamin Shoppe and Super Supplements retail banners in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as the www.vitaminshoppe.com website.
The specialty retailer sells a broad range of vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS), herbs, sports-nutrition ranges, homoeopathic remedies, green living products and beauty aids. In addition to around 900 national brand products, it offers products exclusively under The Vitamin Shoppe, BodyTech, MyTrition, Next Step, plnt, ProBioCare and True Athlete brands.
International sales generated less than 1.0% of The Vitamin Shoppe's sales in 2017. The company has a small number of franchise stores in Costa Rica, Guatemala, Panama and Paraguay.
