WBA announces three appointments
US-based retailer Walgreens Boots Alliance (WBA) has announced three senior appointments, including two at Walgreens.
Tracey Brown has been hired to fill the newly-created position of president of retail products and chief customer officer at Walgreens.
WBA said Brown would be responsible for the “Walgreens customer experience across all consumer touchpoints” and would help to “create and execute key strategies that move the business forward in a complex and dynamic landscape”. She will also oversee the marketing and merchandising functions at Walgreens.
Brown joins WBA from the American Diabetes Association where she was chief executive officer. Before that, she was senior vice president, operations and chief experience officer at Sam’s Club, the members-only warehouse channel of Walmart.
Meanwhile, Jeff Gruener joins Walgreens as senior vice president and chief financial officer. He previously spent 12 years at Walmart.
The company has also appointed Danielle Gray as executive vice president and global chief legal officer of WBA. She joins from insurance company Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.
Roz Brewer, WBA’s chief executive officer, said Brown, Gruener and Gray would be “instrumental in continuing to build momentum across the business”.
Brewer joined WBA from Starbucks in March 2021. She has also worked for Sam’s Club at Walmart (click here to read the News story).
Changes at Finland’s Oriola
Finland’s Oriola has announced that Anders Torell – vice president of the business area Consumer, managing director of the Kronans Apotek pharmacy chain and a member of the company’s management team – has resigned to “pursue new challenges outside Oriola”.
Oriola’s president and chief executive officer Elisa Markula has replaced Torell on an interim basis.
In a separate development, Oriola has appointed Sari Pohjonen as chief financial officer and a member of its management team with effect from 8 November 2021.
Pohjonen joins Oriola from Fiskars Group where she was chief financial officer and deputy to the chief executive officer.
She will report to Markula who joined Oriola recently (click here to read the News story).
McKesson has a new independent director
McKesson’s board of directors has elected Richard Carmona as a new independent director.
The US-based healthcare company said it would benefit from Carmona’s “hands-on healthcare experience”.
Carmona was the 17th Surgeon General of the United States from 2002-2006. He is currently chief of innovations at Canyon Ranch as well as professor of public health at the University of Arizona’s Mel and Enid Zuckerman College of Public Health.
