CVS Pharmacy is acquiring Schnuck Markets' pharmacies, Boots UK is selling 44 pharmacies, Ahold Delhaize has announced a new appointment to its supervisory board, and The Vitamin Shoppe has a new range of sports-nutrition products.

CVS Pharmacy to acquire 110 pharmacies

CVS Health has announced CVS Pharmacy has agreed to acquire the US retail and specialty pharmacy businesses of Schnuck Markets.

The deal covers 99 of the grocer’s pharmacies which will be rebranded as CVS Pharmacy. In addition, CVS Pharmacy will acquire the prescription files from 11 of Schnuck Markets’ pharmacies and transfer them to nearby CVS pharmacy locations.

CVS Health said the deal brought together one of the leading grocers in the Midwest region of the US with CVS Pharmacy’s innovative pharmacy services and clinical expertise.

The transaction is expected to be completed by the end of the second quarter.

Boots UK selling 44 pharmacies

Boots UK is seeking buyers for 44 of its pharmacies in England and Wales.

Christie & Co, which is handling the sale, said the move was part of Walgreens Boots Alliance’s previously-announced plan to consolidate or close around 200 stores in the UK in 2020 (click here to read the News story).

The pharmacies have dispensing volumes ranging from 1,100 to more than 9,000 items per month. They are located in either community, high street or health centre environments.

Ahold changes supervisory board

Ahold Delhaize has nominated Helen Weir for appointment to its supervisory board with effect from 8 April 2020.

The Netherlands-based retailer said Weir had been finance director for several large consumer-focused companies including Marks and Spencer Group, John Lewis Partnership, Lloyds Banking Group and Kingfisher. A British national, she holds several non-executive positions.

Vitamin Shoppe offers Jocko Fuel

The Vitamin Shoppe is now offering the Jocko Fuel sports-nutrition brand developed by Jocko Willink, a former US Navy SEAL officer and leadership expert.

Sharon Leite, Vitamin Shoppe’s chief executive officer, said the team at the US-based specialty retailer had been “longtime fans of Jocko Willink’s inspiring message”. “We share his values of determination, boldness and rigour,” she added.

Vitamin Shoppe said the range of “premium” products was formulated to “fuel your mind and body for the toughest mental and physical challenges”. It includes protein powders, dietary supplements and drinks.

The Jocko Fuel range is available in more than 690 Vitamin Shoppe and Super Supplements stores as well as online at www.vitaminshoppe.com.

The range was launched in 2017 by Jocko Willink and Origin.
