AS Watson has appointed a new chief executive officer for the Benelux region, Vitamin Shoppe has a new chief financial officer, and Green Cross Health has lost its chief financial officer.

AS Watson Benelux gets new chief

Health and beauty retailer AS Watson has appointed Ed van de Weerd as chief executive officer of AS Watson Benelux with effect from 1 July 2019. He will replace Gerard van Breen who is retiring after 14 years.

Van de Weerd joined AS Watson in 2018 as managing director of the drugstore chain Kruidvat in the Netherlands. He had previously worked for Ahold, Jumbo Supermarkten and Procter & Gamble.

AS Watson said Van de Weerd would ensure the group's "retail brands Kruidvat and Trekpleister remain customers' most loved brands with a network of over 1,400 retail stores in the Benelux region".

Vitamin Shoppe names finance chief

US-based specialty retailer Vitamin Shoppe has appointed Charles Knight as its permanent chief financial officer.

Knight was recently appointed interim chief financial officer following the resignation of Bill Wafford. Prior to that, Knight was chief accounting officer (click here to read the News story).

Vitamin Shoppe reported sales of USD283 million in the first quarter of 2019, representing a fall of 4.3% compared to the same period a year earlier.

The company recorded net income of USD3.50 million compared with a net loss of USD3.86 million in the same period a year earlier.

As of 30 March 2019, the retailer had 769 stores under The Vitamin Shoppe and Super Supplements retail banners in the US and Puerto Rico, as well as the www.vitaminshoppe.com website.

Vitamin Shoppe said it had closed five stores in the quarter and had not opened any new ones.

Green Cross loses finance chief

New Zealand's Green Cross Health has announced that group chief financial officer Steve Browning has resigned after three years with the primary healthcare provider.

Green Cross Health represents more than 350 community pharmacies throughout New Zealand under the Unichem and Life Pharmacy brands.
