Ahold Delhaize boosts Etos
Ahold Delhaize has announced that its Dutch drugstore chain Etos has taken over the Solvo Group, owner of several health-related websites.
Commenting on the deal, Ahold Delhaize said Etos was now the “largest provider of health and wellness information and products for consumers in the Netherlands”.
The Netherlands-based retailer added that the deal marked an “important step for Etos towards establishing a new drugstore concept that serves customers around the clock through a combination of physical stores and 24-7 online health information”.
Solvo operates several websites including solvo.nl, gezondheidsplein.nl, doktordokter.nl and ziekenhuis.nl. Ahold said Solvo was the largest online health information platform in the Netherlands, and operated a booking platform with around 5,000 active healthcare specialists.
Saskia Egas Reparaz, Etos brand president, said: “The combination of our physical stores with the Solvo platforms is an important step in our goal of realising the new drugstore, where information, advice and the range of products go hand in hand.”
Vitamin Shoppe unveils concept store
Vitamin Shoppe has unveiled a “next-generation wellness store” in the US.
The US-based specialty retailer said the concept store in Edgewater, New Jersey, brought a “new vision to wellness retail, incorporating technology-driven innovations in product, service and education into the Vitamin Shoppe experience, while elevating the customer journey through a simplified modern design and personalised elements”.
The store offers on-demand digital product guides, enhanced mobile point-of-sale checkout, a designated area to take the brand's new Only Me personalised health assessment, a body composition analysis station, and a supplement sampling machine.
Vitamin Shoppe plans to open five new stores with a similar format between now and January 2020.
