RB has appointed Mehmood Khan – PepsiCo's vice chairman and chief scientific officer, global research and development – to its board with effect from 1 July 2018.
Khan will also join RB's Corporate Responsibility, Sustainability, Ethics and Compliance Committee.
UK-based RB said Khan's appointment would strengthen its "scientific and sustainability focus".
RB pointed out that Khan oversaw PepsiCo's global Performance with Purpose sustainability initiatives, inspired by the belief that business success is inextricably linked to the sustainability of the world. The company also noted that he led PepsiCo's research and development efforts, creating breakthrough innovations in food, beverages and nutrition.
Prior to joining PepsiCo, Khan was president of the Takeda Global Research & Development Center, overseeing Takeda Pharmaceutical Company's worldwide research and development efforts.
Khan is also an independent director of biopharmaceutical company CorMedix.
RB's chairman Chris Sinclair said Khan brought "enormous experience as a medical practitioner and researcher, and in the application of science to the development of consumer products, in particular in the field of nutrition".
Sinclair added that Khan was a "seasoned executive on the management team of a global consumer products company, with extensive experience in both developing and developed markets".
