Perrigo has strengthened its Ranir oral-care business by acquiring Steripod from Bonfit America.
Murray Kessler, Perrigo’s chief executive officer and president, said the small tuck-in acquisition “complements our portfolio of oral self-care products and leverages our innovative manufacturing and marketing platform”.
The deal includes the Steripod portfolio of antibacterial toothbrush protectors, children’s products and tongue cleaners.
Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
Acquisition of Ranir
Perrigo acquired oral-care specialist Ranir Global Holdings in July 2019 in a cash transaction worth USD750 million.
Commenting at the time, Kessler said acquiring the privately-held company was in line with a key component of Perrigo's new strategy of "accelerating growth by pursuing adjacent self-care categories".
Perrigo said Ranir was the "largest private-label oral-care company globally", with sales of USD287 million in 2018. The company's products – including power and manual toothbrushes, teeth whiteners, dental floss, interdental brushes and travel kits – are sold in more than 50 countries.
"As private-label continues to take share from branded products in oral care," said Perrigo, "Ranir is well positioned to serve the growing demand for high-quality, customised, store-brand, oral-care products."
US-based Ranir also markets the Plackers oral-care brand and Rembrandt teeth-whitening brand as well as cold-sore treatments.
The Ranir deal is part of Perrigo's self-care transformation plan which was unveiled in May 2019 (click here to read the News story).
