GlaxoSmithKline's chief executive officer Emma Walmsley is set to join the board of Microsoft, while Bayer, Menarini and the US Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) have announced people changes.
Walmsley to join Microsoft board
Microsoft has announced plans to add GlaxoSmithKline's chief executive officer Emma Walmsley to its board of directors.
The US-based technology company said Walmsley would be presented for election at its annual shareholders meeting on 4 December 2019.
John Thompson, Microsoft's independent board chair, said Walmsley was an "accomplished business leader who led major advances in research and development at GlaxoSmithKline, and will bring her significant insights and global experience to Microsoft".
Walmsley joined GlaxoSmithKline in 2010 and has been chief executive officer since 2017.
Bayer recruits from Hilton
Bayer Consumer Health has recruited the Hilton Corporation's Daniella Foster as its new head of public affairs and sustainability.
Foster will report to Heiko Schipper, president of Bayer Consumer Health and a member of Bayer's board of management.
Schipper commented that Foster had "vast experience in this increasingly important field". "She has a deep passion for sustainability," he added, "and a proven track record of successful partnerships with government authorities and non-governmental organisations around the world."
Before joining Bayer Consumer Health on 16 September 2019, Foster had global corporate responsibility at Hilton. Bayer said she had "created and implemented programmes that positioned Hilton as the industry leader in sustainable travel and tourism, launching the company's 2030 Goals agenda and securing the top ranking on the Dow Jones Sustainability Index among hospitality companies".
Foster also spent nearly eight years at the US Department of State.
Menarini hires chief executive
Italian pharmaceutical company Menarini has appointed Elcin Barker Ergun as chief executive officer. She joins from Germany's Merck where she was head of new business.
Menarini said the move strengthened the company's governance and made it more international.
CRN promotes Wong
The CRN has promoted Andrea Wong to senior vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs. She was previously vice president of scientific and regulatory affairs.
Wong joined the US trade association for the dietary supplement and functional food industry in 2013.
