Jerry Reinstein – former director general of the World Self-Medication Industry (WSMI) – has passed away.
Reinstein joined the industry association in 1989 when it was known as the World Federation of Proprietary Medicine Manufacturers (WFPMM). In 1997, he played a key role in repositioning the WFPMM as the WSMI.
During more than a decade at the helm of the association – now known as the Global Self-Care Federation (GSCF) – Reinstein was instrumental in building a close working relationship with the World Health Organization (WHO).
He also worked closely with professional organisations such as the World Medical Association (WMA) and the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP).
Reinstein retired from the WSMI at the organisation’s General Assembly in Japan in 2002.
Prior to joining the WFPMM, Reinstein was assistant director R&D at Procter & Gamble from 1987-1989. He also worked for Vick International and Syntex International.
Reinstein was a pharmacist and lectured at the University of California School of Pharmacy in the US before joining the consumer healthcare industry.
Outside of work, Jerry Reinstein was a keen Scottish country dancer.
