- Replaces Magnus Nylén as chief commercial officer
- Nylén played important role in Karo’s expansion
- Roberts brings key capabilities as Karo grows
Karo Pharma has appointed Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J’s) Matt Roberts as chief commercial officer with effect from 1 September 2021.
Roberts will take over from Magnus Nylén who has “decided to pursue opportunities outside of Karo”.
Christoffer Lorenzen, chief executive officer of Sweden’s Karo, said Roberts brought “strong and relevant experience from leading, international consumer health companies”. “He has the capabilities we need as Karo expands and grows in size and scope,” he added.
Nearly 17 years at J&J
Roberts spent nearly 17 years at J&J where he most recently served as head of commercial for Northern Europe.
Karo pointed out that Roberts had worked for J&J in various global, regional and local roles in the commercial area. His experience ranged from heading strategic functions such as global shopper and customer strategy to executional roles such as account director for Walgreens Boots Alliance.
Prior to joining J&J, Roberts spent around eight years with Procter & Gamble.
Roberts said he looked forward to further refining Karo’s “commercial platform and ways of working to drive organic growth”.
Commenting on Nylén, Lorenzen said he had been instrumental in taking Karo to where it is today. “He has led our rapid international expansion and has built a committed and strong commercial team,” added Lorenzen. “We would not be where we are without Magnus and his drive and passion for building business and strong organisations.”
In the second quarter of 2021, Karo reported sales of SEK748 million (USD86.7 million), representing a rise of 9% compared to the same period a year earlier (click here to read the News story).
