June Raine will become interim chief executive officer of the UK's Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) on 20 September 2019.
She will replace Ian Hudson who is stepping down after six years as chief executive officer and 18 years with the regulatory agency. Hudson's departure was announced by the MHRA in November 2018 (click here to read the News story).
Raine has been director of the MHRA's Vigilance and Risk Management of Medicines (VRMM) division since 2016. She chaired the Pharmacovigilance Risk Assessment Committee (PRAC) at the European Medicines Agency (EMA) from 2012-2018.
Michael Rawlins, the MHRA's chairman, pointed out Raine had spent her professional career in the MHRA and its predecessors. "She is recognised as one of the leading experts in the field of medicines safety, playing a central role in the agency's work," he added.
