Jacobson Pharma plans to spin off its branded healthcare business, The Nature’s Bounty Co has joined the US Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA) and Venture Life’s Dentyl mouthwash is participating in a COVID-19 trial.

Jacobson to spin off branded healthcare

Hong Kong-based Jacobson Pharma has announced plans to spin off its branded healthcare subsidiary JBM (Healthcare).

JBM markets consumer healthcare products and proprietary Chinese medicines. Its products are available in Greater China, South-East Asia and certain other countries.

Jacobson Pharma said the spin-off would allow it to focus on its generic drugs business.

Following the spin-off, JBM will be listed on the Stock Exchange of Hong Kong. Jacobson Pharma said it intended to hold “not less than 50% of the shares of JBM”.

Nature’s Bounty joins CHPA

Vitamins, minerals and supplements (VMS) specialist The Nature’s Bounty Co has joined the US Consumer Healthcare Products Association (CHPA).

Paul Sturman – president and chief executive officer of The Nature’s Bounty Co – said his company was pleased to support the CHPA’s “renewed focus on nutritionals”.

The CHPA recently refreshed its image with a new logo, tagline and brand narrative (click here to read the News story).

The 139 year-old industry association has repositioned itself as “the only association in the US representing the personal healthcare industry, broadly”. It represents medical devices, OTC medicines and VMS products.

Dentyl takes part in COVID-19 trial

Self-care group Venture Life says its Dentyl brand is participating in a clinical trial to investigate the possibility of using OTC mouthwashes to reduce the viral load and therefore the transmission of COVID-19 in the mouth.

The clinical study – led by Professor David Thomas at Cardiff University in the UK – is titled ‘The measurement of mouthwash antiviral activity against COVID-19’.

Thomas said a literature review of previous research had prompted the deeper look into the “possible positive impact that mouthwashes may play on the transmission of COVID-19”.

The review concluded that cetylpyridinium chloride – the main active ingredient of Venture Life’s Dentyl mouthwash – might be effective in reducing transmission of COVID-19.
