Durex condom recall hits around 25 countries

1 August 2018 - Deborah Wilkes

RB has recalled some batches of its non-latex Durex condoms in around 25 countries including Australia, France, Ireland, Spain and the UK.

The company said the recall affected a "limited" number of Real Feel and Latex Free condoms made from polyisoprene. Real Feel condoms are promoted as providing a "natural skin on skin feeling", while Latex Free condoms are described as "suitable for latex-sensitive users".

RB said some batches currently on the market did not pass the "requirements for burst pressure towards the end of the shelf life of the product".

Does not affect latex condoms

The company stressed that the recall did not apply to other Durex products including Durex condoms made from latex.

A spokesperson for RB told OTCToolbox the recall affected a "very, very small" percentage of the company's total condom sales.

However, the recall has been widely covered by leading media organisations, with many focusing on concerns the condoms could split or burst.
