Beiersdorf has promoted Stefan De Loecker to chief executive officer with effect from 1 January 2019.
De Loecker will take over from Stefan Heidenreich who announced his departure from the German skincare specialist in June 2018 (click here to read the News story).
Commenting on the appointment, Reinhard Pöllath, chairman of Beiersdorf's Supervisory Board, said the Board "strongly supports the proposed concentration on consumers and consumer benefits, skincare, digitalisation, internationalisation, and sustainable growth".
A Belgian national, De Loecker joined Beiersdorf in 2012, initially as senior vice president Near East. He was appointed to the Executive Board in 2014, and took charge of the Americas region in April 2016. On 1 July 2018, he was named deputy chairman of the Executive Board.
Previously worked for Nestlé and Tesco
Prior to joining Beiersdorf, De Loecker worked for Nestlé and supermarket chain Tesco.
Beiersdorf reported worldwide sales up by 7.7% on an organic basis in the first half of 2018. Growth as reported was 2.8% to EUR3.61 billion (USD4.18 billion) (click here to read the News story).
The company's EBIT was up by 4.3% to EUR585 million, giving an EBIT margin of 16.2%.
