Bausch + Lomb is set to launch a preservative-free version of its Alaway antihistamine eye drops in the US in the spring of 2021.
The company said Alaway Preservative Free (ketotifen fumarate ophthalmic solution 0.035%) was the “first OTC preservative-free eye drop approved for the treatment of itchy eyes associated with allergies”.
Alaway Preservative Free comes in a pack of 20 single-dose vials providing 10 days’ supply. Packaging highlights that the product provides eye itch relief for “up to 12 hours” and “works in minutes”.
Bausch + Lomb noted that “preservatives commonly used in eye drops can cause allergic reactions in some people that can lead to redness, irritation, itching or tearing”.
The US rights to Alaway Preservative Free were acquired from Eton Pharmaceuticals in February 2019.
Bausch Health Companies recently announced plans to spin off its Bausch + Lomb eyecare business into an independent, publicly-traded company (click here to read the News story).
